Mr. Rahul Gandhi and Professor Sondhi, September 2017.
In Fall 2009 CISS launched a program titled "India and the World" which focuses attention on the rise of India and its implications for international security. India is playing an increasingly important role in the emerging Asian balance of power and the global economy and it is our hope that this program will generate a better understanding of India's internal dynamics, its external interests and challenges and its interactions with the international system.
Directed by Professor Shivaji Sondhi of the Department of Physics, this program brings to Princeton lectures and seminars by leading academic and policy experts on strategic issues involving India and the global community. Special events have included a visit to campus in 2017 by Mr. Rahul Gandhi, Member of Parliament. Professor Sondhi and Mr. Gandhi engaged in a discussion regarding India's present and Mr. Gandhi's vision of India's future. A question and answer session with Princeton University students and faculty followed the discussion.

Members of Parliament gather at Palmer House for the 2017 Program.
Since 2011, CISS has hosted an annual Program on International Relations and Strategic Affairs for a select group of Indian Members of Parliament who travel to Princeton to interact with leading experts at Princeton and elsewhere on a range of issues. Approximately six Members of Parliament participate in the program on an annual basis and represent a diversity of political parties and states. Currently this Program is co-sponsored by the Governance & Public Policy Initiative of the Center for Policy Research, Delhi which is directed by Mr. Ramesh Chandran.
